Nikon D40 Review
October 21, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The Nikon D40 is a 6.1 megapixel, digital SLR camera. It’s most commonly sold as a kit with a 18mm to 55mm lens. The D40 is a great combination because it sort of falls in between digital point and shoot cameras and high-end digital SLR cameras. For the beginner, it is a great entry point into SLR and will feel almost like a super powered point and shoot. The Nikon D40 features an all black exterior with a medium sized 2.5 inch LCD on the back that serves as an LCD viewfinder and the status center instead of having one on top of the camera like some brands. At $500-$600, the Nikon D40 is priced pretty well. Keep an eye out for sales at Circuit City or Amazon.com and you might even find it below $500.

The Nikon D40 is the beginning level of Nikon’s digital SLR camera’s. it doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of a higher-end camera but has just enough for a beginner to get their feet wet. It’s biggest issues are shutter lag and autofocus speed. In general, the Nikon D40 still takes a great picture and may be the right one for your first dSLR. Other cameras you may want to consider are the Canon EOS Rebel XT or the big brother of the D40, the Nikon D80.

The Pentax K10D is a digital SLR camera featuring an all black body and comes in two different versions, with a 18mm-55mm lens (K10DKIT1855MM) and without a lens (body only). Pentax has been in the camera industry for a long time and continues to turn out some of the better cameras on the market today. The K10D is a 10.2 megapixel digital SLR with plenty of features for its price range. In general, the Pentax K10D is an entry-level digital SLR but it has some impressive features.

The Pentax K10D should be considered for an amateur photographer looking to get into digital SLR cameras. It produces excellent quality pictures and has some more advanced features for its price range. The lens that is included in the K10D kit is also an entry-level lens but is good quality for a beginner. There are a few improvements that could be made to the K10D but for its class, its one of the leaders.
