Nikon D40 Review
October 21, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The Nikon D40 is a 6.1 megapixel, digital SLR camera. It’s most commonly sold as a kit with a 18mm to 55mm lens. The D40 is a great combination because it sort of falls in between digital point and shoot cameras and high-end digital SLR cameras. For the beginner, it is a great entry point into SLR and will feel almost like a super powered point and shoot. The Nikon D40 features an all black exterior with a medium sized 2.5 inch LCD on the back that serves as an LCD viewfinder and the status center instead of having one on top of the camera like some brands. At $500-$600, the Nikon D40 is priced pretty well. Keep an eye out for sales at Circuit City or Amazon.com and you might even find it below $500.
Nikon D40 Features & Specifications Review
- Camera Type: Digital SLR (dSLR)

The Nikon D40 is the beginning level of Nikon’s digital SLR camera’s. it doesn’t have all of the bells and whistles of a higher-end camera but has just enough for a beginner to get their feet wet. It’s biggest issues are shutter lag and autofocus speed. In general, the Nikon D40 still takes a great picture and may be the right one for your first dSLR. Other cameras you may want to consider are the Canon EOS Rebel XT or the big brother of the D40, the Nikon D80.

Samsung SC-D372 Review
October 18, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The Samsung SC-D372 is a budget line Mini-DV tape camcorder and can typically be found for under $200 at popular electronics outlets. It’s pretty average from its features, silver and black exterior and flip out LCD screen. It includes important features like digital image stabilization, back light and decent zoom. The best part of the Samsung SCD372 is its simplicity. Almost anyone could power this up and start shooting video in no time.
Samsung SC-D372 Features & Specifications Review
- Camcorder Type: Mini DV
- LCD Screen Size: 2.7 inches
- Outputs: Firewire
- Optical Zoom: 34x
- Digital Zoom: 1200x
- Light: Built-in
- Image Stabilization: Yes
- Warranty: 1 year
- Remote Control: No
- Special Effects: Ball, Sepia, Emboss, Mirror, Mosaic, Pastel, Black & White
- Microphone: Built-in
The Samsung SC-D372 is a very inexpensive camera and it matches up to its price. It’s easy to record video but its missing quite a few features and the overall video quality is not that great. It’s easy to begin shooting video but the controls for the menu are more difficult to use. On the Samsung SCD372 you’re also missing the very popular still image picture ability which is available on some slightly more expensive cameras. Overall, the SC-D372 isn’t quite as great as its competitors but is an okay option if its the only one in your price range.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 Review
October 17, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The Sony DSC-T70 is an extremely compact point and shoot digital camera thats available in various colors: white (DSCT70W), pink (DSCT70P), black (DSCT70B) and silver (DSCT70S). The Cyber-shot DSCT70’s initial attraction is its outward appeal. It’s a very slim camera with a very impressive touch sensitive 3 inch LCD viewing screen on the back. With an array of features and 8.1 megapixels, you aren’t losing much quality with its compact size. Sony’s digital cameras have a great mix of features for advanced users but also are simple enough for the technology impaired.
Sony Cyber-shot DSCT70 Features & Specifications Review:
- Resolution: 8.1 megapixels
- Digital Zoom: 2x
- Optical Zoom: 3x
- Image Stabilization: Yes
- Screen Size: 3 inch touch screen
- Movie Mode: Yes, records audio
- Memory: Memory Stick Duo (31 MB built-in)
- Light Sensitivity: ISO 80, ISO 100, ISO 200, ISO 400, ISO 800, ISO 1600, ISO 3200, ISO auto
- Shooting Types: Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Landscape, Soft snap, Twilight mode, Hi-speed shutter, High sensitivity, Twilight portrait
- Special Effects: Sepia, Vivid, Neutral, Black & White
- Shutter Speed: 1/1000 sec - 1 sec
- Self Timer: 2 sec, 10 sec
- Dimensions: 2.3 inches high, 3.6 inches wide, .8 inches deep, 4.5 ounces
- Warranty: 1 year
The Sony DSCT70 is a great camera for the occasional photographer. It’s reasonably priced for what you get. You can find similar digital cameras from other brands for less but you won’t get quite the same quality as the DSC-T70. There are a few areas where the DSCT70 could improve. The digital and optical zoom are a little less than you would desire. It’s also lacking a viewfinder in the back which can often be handy in brightly lit situations. The negative aspects of the DSC-T70 are minor compared to all the other features you’ll enjoy like the touch-sensitive 3 inch LCD screen on the back. Overall, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T70 is a great camera for anyone seeking an easy to use, feature packed digital point and shoot camera.

Pentax K10D Review
October 16, 2007 | Leave a Comment
The Pentax K10D is a digital SLR camera featuring an all black body and comes in two different versions, with a 18mm-55mm lens (K10DKIT1855MM) and without a lens (body only). Pentax has been in the camera industry for a long time and continues to turn out some of the better cameras on the market today. The K10D is a 10.2 megapixel digital SLR with plenty of features for its price range. In general, the Pentax K10D is an entry-level digital SLR but it has some impressive features.
Pentax K10D Features & Specifications Review
- Resolution: 10.2 megapixels
- Dimensions: 5.6 inches wide, 2.8 inches deep, 4 inches high, 25 ounces
- Image Stabilization: Yes
- LCD Screen Size: 2.5 inches
- Memory Type: SD memory card
- Light Sensitivity: ISO 100, ISO 200, ISO 400, ISO 800, ISO 1600, ISO auto
- Special Effects: Slim, Sepia, Black & White
- Shutter Speed: 1/4000 second to 30 seconds
- Still Image Format: JPEG, RAW

The Pentax K10D should be considered for an amateur photographer looking to get into digital SLR cameras. It produces excellent quality pictures and has some more advanced features for its price range. The lens that is included in the K10D kit is also an entry-level lens but is good quality for a beginner. There are a few improvements that could be made to the K10D but for its class, its one of the leaders.
